How often do you belt test and what are they like?
Answer:
Rank or belt tests are usually offered every month to those whom qualify. The instructor will recommend a student for testing when they are ready. The minimum testing times for rank/belts from whitebelt to 1st kyu is 3 months between each belt though it typically takes longer. Factors that influence a student’s testing readiness are knowledge/ability to demonstrate the current curriculum, class attendance, and self-training frequency.
The testing procedure performed in front of an examination board consists of 3 elements: kata, kihon(basics), kumite(sparring) These elements are taught and reviewed during routine classes and the curriculum for each kyu test can be found here
