traditional Shotokan karate

We practice JKA style traditional Shotokan Karate. Shotokan is one of the oldest and most widely practiced forms of Karate in the world today.

Shotokan was developed by Okinawan Master Gichin Funakoshi also known as the father of modern day Karate. In 1922, Master Funakoshi gave a Karate demonstration in Tokyo and it's popularity increased greatly in Japan afterwards. The first Karate-do club was established at Keio University. In 1948, the Japan Karate Association (JKA) was founded by Master Funakoshi's senior students where Shotokan was formalized and developed further.

Why traditional Shotokan Karate?

Through hard training, the students of traditional Karate strengthen physical and mental skills while developing self-control. Further, students learn to understand the physical and mental condition of their opponents, and thereby avoid fighting; the ultimate goal of karate. Only by avoiding fighting, can one truly win.
